Florio Cellars in Marsala
The guided tour of the historic Florio Cellars in Marsala starts with the majestic giant vats,
eight unique specimens built at the end of the 19th century and still used for the refinement of Marsala.
After passing the large vats, you enter directly into the Sala Garibaldi,
a large space that opens up to welcome the visitor and from which it is possible to catch a first glimpse of the fascinating barrel cellars.
Here you can admire the weapons donated by Giuseppe Garibaldi to Vincenzo Florio,
to thank him for the loyalty shown to him in 1860,
and from here we proceed through the Florio and Ingham-Woodhouse rooms to finally discover the barrel cellars.
The cellars
Fascinating places, 165 meters long interspersed with 104 arches,
below which are lined up 1,400 barrels and about 600 barrels and vats of different capacities.
Crossing the threshold of the historic rooms you enter the cellar itself,
an evocative and magical environment as they are kept,
about 5,500,000 liters of marsala.
After an exciting tour of about thirty minutes through the cellars,
where the ancient tuff floor was restored,
you enter the Donna Franca Tasting Room.
Donna Franca Tasting Room
Born from a new way of conceiving the spaces of the Cellar,
in this room the tasting is transformed from a moment of pleasure into a suggestive experience,
which involves all the senses by stimulating them with colours,
sounds and scents.
In this innovative space,
obtained from one of the tuff naves,
the guest is greeted by background music,
by an evocative play of lights and is led in the tasting by a virtual guide who accompanies him in the discovery of sensations,
unexpected flavors and aromas.
The visit to the cellar ends inside the Enoteca Florio,
an avant-garde and unique store in Italy, as it welcomes all Duca di Salaparuta wines,
Corvo and Florio, as well as a selection of excellent craftsmanship and typical Sicilian products.
