Easter arches in San Biagio Platani

Easter in San Biagio Platani (AG) exhibition of Easter Arches: art, music, cultural events. The tradition of the Easter Arches dates back to the second half of the seventeenth century and is repeated every year, during the Easter period. Among all the events that celebrate Holy Easter,

the one that takes place in San Biagio Platani is one of the most important. This rite is born from the cult of Our Lady and of Christ and has its roots in the 18th century. To this tradition we owe the birth of the two confraternities, Madunnara and Signurara,

which with so much love renew this wonderful event every year. This division of the country into the two confraternities gives rise to an exciting competition, which ends on Saturday night,

when each confraternity prepares the part of the course that belongs to it.

The Easter Arches are officially ready from Easter morning and remain exposed even in the following weeks. The preparation,

which begins a few months before Easter, requires reeds, willow, asparagus, laurel, rosemary, cereals, dates and bread,

each of which is rich in symbolic meaning. The most evocative part consists of the central arches, under which on Sunday morning the meeting between the risen Jesus and the Madonna takes place.

The religious significance of the Easter Arches is to represent Christ’s triumph over death. Also this year,

with the arrival of Holy Easter,

is already in motion the scenic machine of ‘Arches of Bread’.
