PIAZZA ARMERINA<\/h2>\n

The town was born from the Greek colonization, then it underwent Roman and Byzantine domination. A period of strong contrasts, Piazza Armerina lived during the twelfth century due to the strong clashes between Arabs and Lombards.<\/p>\n

Piazza Armerina is universally known for the Villa Romana del Casale,<\/p>\n

showing one of the most important archaeological discoveries of Roman Sicily from the end of the 3rd century and the beginning of the 4th century AD.<\/p>\n

The Roman mosaic art of the late imperial age finds its greatest example here with its floors of about 3,500 square meters where splendid polychrome mosaics spread out which now depict mythological images, now scenes of everyday life.<\/p>\n

The most important rooms of the villa are the Baths, with a long hall, the Frigidarium, the Tiepidarium and the Calidaria.<\/p>\n

The Vestibule leading to the great Peristyle is interesting.<\/p>\n

The representations of the mosaics are very beautiful and interesting,<\/p>\n

this is the case of the mosaic floor of the Ambulacrum of the Great Hunt which presents the personification of the provinces at the ends, with the Phoenix, the mythical bird, representing Arabia on the left, Armenia.<\/p>\n

Also note the carrying out of hunting operations, and the representation of the 10 palestrite, girls in a costume similar to the modern “bikini” and the labors of Hercules.<\/p>\n<\/div>
