TRAPANI<\/h2>\n

(118 km away) The ancient Sican name was Daprano, an emporium and strategic port of call for the Phoenicians who conquered it in the 8th century BC. Subsequently the center becomes even more important with the Carthaginians who make it one of the most significant cities in western Sicily,<\/p>\n

it was conquered by the Romans in 241 BC. which totally destroyed the Punic city and marked a decline that lasted centuries until the Arab conquest,<\/p>\n

which instead gave the typical imprint of Islamic cities with a maze of alleys and the city walls.<\/p>\n

The Normans conquered it in 1077 and made it a royal city by concentrating the industrial activities of coral processing and goldsmithing in it and giving it the character of a maritime city dedicated to fishing and trade.<\/p>\n

In the district of the ancient ghetto is the Palazzo della Giudecca also called “lo Spedaletto”,<\/p>\n

typical Catalan architecture with diamond-cut ashlars that cover a large part of the facade.<\/p>\n

Not to be missed in Trapani is the Annunziata sanctuary built between 1315 and 1332, which has a very well-preserved 15th-century fa\u00e7ade with a central rose window.<\/p>\n<\/div>
