Carnival of Sciacca

In the first place, Sciacca celebrates its Carnival. Carnival of Sciacca is the oldest in Sicily. But also one of the most famous in southern Italy. The tradition begins around the first half of the 17th century in Sciacca. It is celebrated with allegorical floats and costumes.

The party

Today the Sciacca Carnival is one of the most anticipated of citizens. It attracts visitors from all over the world. It begins with the symbolic key of the city for the carnival king Peppe Nappa. The character that the Saccensi consider the symbolic mask. So, he opens and closes the festival.

It ends when Peppe Nappa’s car burns in front of everyone in the square.
