PIANA DEGLI ALBANESI

(80 km away) Piana degli Albanesi is the largest Albanian colony on the island,

was founded in 1488 by a group of Albanian exiles, led by Giorgio Castriota Skanderberg,

fleeing from Albania where there was the invasion by the Ottoman Empire.

Over the centuries the inhabitants of Piana have preserved

jealously their own cultural roots such as language,

traditions and customs.
